About

Troy and JenniferWelcome to savingscrate.com!

My name is Troy Eckhardt, and I’d like to introduce myself and my motivation for creating this website.

I have decided in my middle age (I’m 44 at the time of this writing) to look into expanding my sources of income. This decision comes after several years of looking at different methods of creating an online business, and after looking at many, many different models of doing so. I am not one who believes everything he reads, nor one who spends money frivolously, so mine isn’t one of those stories in which the narrator has spent thousands of dollars chasing down dreams of internet business success, only to later discover that the money was ill-spent. Never-the-less, I have dreamed, and my dreams have taken me to the websites of many internet wealth gurus. Most are charlatans, in my opinion. I do not believe in free lunches, nor that anyone is entitled to them. I believe that success comes only through hard work and dedication, and that there is no Easy Button.

I currently work from home as the owner of a public accounting firm. I have a modest number of clients for whom I do monthly accounting, including payroll, sales tax computation and remission, corporate income taxes, etc. I also prepare about 300-400 personal income tax returns each year. I make an acceptable living. Before I was an accountant, I was a school teacher (physics and German.) God willing, I do not intend to ever work away from home again.

I have no consumer debt other than a smallish mortgage (I owe about one year’s income), and I’d love not to have even that over my head.

I am the Christian husband to a wonderful, beautiful, spectacular wife (my high school sweetheart) and dad to seven children (six living), so we do spend our fair share on groceries, but we really do live rather modestly otherwise. I have never owned a brand new car, nor do I really want to. In fact, we were a single-car family (currently we drive a 2003 Suburban) for 15 years until two weeks ago when I bought myself a “new” toy – a 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder. It’s not a Porsche, but I tell myself it is. Yes, my idea of extravagance is a 14-year-old car with two previous owners and 150,000 miles on the odometer.

Formerly on this domain, I expressed my political and social opinions. Take a guess at the flavor of those given what you know about my faith, career, number of children, opinion about debt and free lunches, etc. 🙂 I have decided to move those opinions to a new domain, and start here with this project. You don’t really have to be Sherlock Holmes to find my other site, though. I have nothing to hide, but I wanted to separate this project from any others.

My goal in starting over here at savingscrate.com is to create a journal of sorts about my journey into the world of making money online. My hope is that this record will be a good tool both for me as I learn, but also for any readers who might be helped by such an online history.

Ultimately I plan to use several means of making money online, but based on some good advice I have decided that during my first phase I will focus on learning and practicing everything I possibly can about reselling through Amazon FBA.

Join me in my journey, and come and grow with me!
